Longji Terraces

  • October 19, 2017
Longji Terraces, simplified Chinese: 龙脊梯田lóngjǐ tītián, Longji (Dragon’s Backbone) Rice Fields received their name because the terraces resemble a dragon’s scales, while the summit of the mountain range looks like the backbone of the dragon. The terraced fields are built along the slope winding from the riverside up to the mountaintop, between 600 to 800 meters (2,000 to 2,600 ft) above sea level. The Longji terraces have a history of more than 2300 years, which is the original land of the world of terraces. This is the last week to see the golden rice field in this year because they are going to harvest the Monday after we visited. We are very lucky to study here, otherwise, we can’t see this amazing scenery. OK! Let’s go!
It’s about three hours from Yangshuo to Longsheng, but we spent seven hours to get to Longsheng because it was the most popular time to go! We are fortunate among those people as we were able to get into Lonji as we did not have to sleep in the car park due to the influx of tourists on that day. Even though it was a weekend, only two days, but the tourist quantity was as large as the national holiday! All the waiting was worth it, when we finally arrived there we were surprised by the incredible scenery.
The hotel we stayed in was amazing and the view of the mountain was right in front the hotel. We had only had breakfast the entire day, and by the time we arrived it was already 6:00 pm, before we went to explore the terraces we had to order some local food. We had dinner and then went to see the night scene of this small town. It’s zhài Town.
On the Sunday, we wanted to see the beautiful sunrise over the terraces so we got up at 4 am to go look for the sunrise. We went climbing the highest terraces mountain in this village. It seems like it’s not far from one mountain to another, but it’s beyond our expectations. When we got to the top it was cloudy and the sun was not shining through the clouds. Even though it was so long and we felt very tired we were extremely happy, we took photos and enjoyed the incredible view while walking.
We had different groups, while one was climbing to the top, another took the cable car.
Finally, we arrived it was so cold at the top, but our passion set our hearts on fire!
Every time, when we go out to join the activities we always make many friends.
These photos do not come near to capturing the majestic atmosphere of these large rice fields and the only way one can truly experience the joy is by visiting Lonji! Join us next year when we make our way back to create new memories.
